Congratulations to our competing teams in the Nissan Corporate Triathlon on Sunday 4th March
On Sunday 4th March, a group of keen CharterMason supporters gathered early by the beach for a delicious breakfast and the chance to watch our two teams compete in the Nissan Corporate Triathlon.
The bad weather on Saturday had us all worried and ensured that the swim leg of the race was changed to an 800m run. We were, however, very fortunate that the rain held off on Sunday morning and we even had glimpses of sun as our competitors completed the 800m run, 10km bike ride, 4km run course.
Our winning teams!
Congratulations to our Pro team made up of Luke Whitmore, Cameron Simon & Paul Attard who won the ‘Informal Team’ division for the third year running in a time of 1.44.56 - a fantastic effort! Look out for the winner’s plaque next time you are in the Hardware Lane office.
Congratulations also to our second team made up of Stephen White, Glenn Bailey & Simon Cosgrave who completed a fantastic race and came third in the same divisionwith a time of 2.17.11. Well done!
Please join us in congratulating our competing teams on their outstanding performances.
We are now looking forward to the next Nissan Corporate Triathlon in Sydney on Sunday April 29th and wish our two competing teams the best of luck!

Team CharterMason at the 2011 Murray to Moyne challenge
Riding into the head wind
On the weekend of 2 April 2011 Team CharterMason participated in the 530km Woody’s Murray to Moyne cycle challenge. The team consisted of eight riders (Stephen White, Nick Zandes, Oliver Le Grice, Joanna Bizette, Peter Lotz, Rohan Richardson, Glenn Bailey and Julian McAll) and two support staff (Leo Zelios and Heather Lotz).
Leo got us to Mildura on time disproving all written statements regarding the fuel consumption of a Toyota mini bus – I think his best was 250km per tank. He blames this on the large trailer we were pulling – I think it was the large foot stamping on the accelerator……. Dinner at the Grand Hotel was followed by a night in a Mildura campsite (noisier than a Psycho Billy album at full volume). We started off from Mildura at 09h35 on Saturday morning and dealt with a 25km/hr head wind for 12 hours!! The initial four cyclists on the road at a time with a 2hr turnabout slowly reduced to two cyclists at a time for 45 minutes per leg as the wind took its toll. Seldom has more food and energy drink been consumed by so few for so long – again we all blamed the wind!! (Glenn tore through 10 wraps on his own!!). The last 45km of the first day was delivered in spectacular fashion by Nick and Rowan getting us into Hamilton (440km from the start – with the bus following at less than 30km/hr) at 1 am Sunday morning. Weary as we were – we set up camp and got stuck into a hot pasta meal (thanks Heather!) and got a much needed 3 or 4 hours sleep – everyone appreciated the one hour extra sleep provided for by the change from daylight saving!!
CharterMason Bay Street Dash 2011
04/02/2011
In very muggy and wet conditions, the CharterMason Bay Street Team participated in the Bay Street Dash to help raise funds for the Victorian Flood Appeal.
Konrad came an impressive 6th in the Men’s section and was right up there with the winning pack till a red light stopped him (rule of the run was you must stop at red lights as they were running on the foot path as road wasn’t closed) – Konrad also won the prize for being the most soaked when finished – he won a towel!
Leanne and Jody followed Konrad and finished the run well with Adam coming in just after the girls with a hammy injury.
CharterMason Youth Development Team at the Victorian Junior Track Championships
31/01/2011
The Victorian Junior Track Championships were held at DISC on the weekend. Yesterday’s 40C temperature on the metal roof of DISC made the track almost unbearable so it was a credit to the athletes who managed to perform well in such extreme conditions.
Kelly Cycle Coaches Bob and Helen Kelly worked hard all weekend helping each CharterMason sponsored athlete warm up well and try to achieve their very best in each event.
Congratulations to Emily Wordie-Thompson, Emma Bilston and Thomas Verleys-Donk who all made the Victorian Track Team and will be competing in the Junior National Championships in March 2011. Emma Bilston finished 1st in the pursuit, 2nd in the Points race and 3rd in the time trial. Other podium results included Emily Wordie-Thompson and Emily Dunk, who both finished 3rd in their pursuit.
Thomas Verleys-Donk rode very well and collected 3 medals in the pursuit, time trial and points race. He dominated the points race, winning 3 out of the 4 sprints held every 10 laps throughout the race.
Sean McIver rode really well and did PB’s in all 3 events (pursuit, time trial and flying 200). He was particularly pleased to do a 36.7sec for his TT, over 1 second faster than he has ever riden.
Similarly, Drew Morey, Harry Dziubinski and Jack Quibell all rode well doing PB’s in their pursuits and time trials. Jack tried hard in the match sprint events against riders that were twice his size.
In summary, it was a very successful weekend and we wish Emily Wordie-Thompson (U17), Emma Bilston (U15) and Thomas Verleys-Donk all the very best at the Junior National Championships.
Helen Kelly Road & Track Coaching.
