Our Capabilities

Program and Project Management

Program and Project management and PMO implementation and operation is a core part of our business. CharterMason’s Program and Project Management services assist customers manage complex change programs associated with the execution of their business strategies. We provide portfolio, program and project management capabilities with the required discipline and rigour to deliver successful outcomes for complex programs of work.

Our method of program management is proactive; driving outcomes by using leading thinking on managing schedules. We see the PMO function as a proactive provider of decision support information rather than a back office repository for templates and project managers.

CharterMason uses GARP, an in-house methodology for managing programs and projects. GARP is complementary to project management methodologies such as PMI, Prince2 and PMBOK.

The reason that CharterMason uses this approach is that the methodology is centred on structuring a PMO for risk and managing programs for outcomes.

GARP uses a modelling approach called Critical Chain Planning which is underpinned by the “Theory of Constraints” as an overriding planning methodology.

GARP is best summarised by the following points:

  • Governance – ensures predictability and visibility
  • Accountability – single point accountability ensures progress
  • Risk – a risk based program structure ensures sound decision making
  • Planning – critical path centric planning ensures agile project management

The CharterMason approach is essentially agnostic of any specific project management methodology allowing clients to use their preferred method in conjunction with GARP.
